Challenge

Our client had recently purchased this detached suburban property and without delay submitted plans for a substantial rear extension. With planning approval in hand, we were appointed to create a cohesive design and finishes solution to create a synergy between the existing areas of the property and this new contemporary family living space.

Solution

Taking the space and a particular wallcovering which the client loved as our key starting point, Design A space set to work checking the architects layout in terms of light and best use of circulation detailing throughout the house. By refining the colour palette and keeping very clean lines to the functional kitchen furniture, we were able create a good flow to the three separate areas within one space. By installing the full height furniture and the colourful wallcovering to the rear of the light filled space, it was possible to maintain the full impact of natural light from the large bi fold doors throughout. Small accent colours from the wallcovering were used in the soft furnishings as devices to move the eye around the room to achieve the cohesion.
